Vanderbilt's Chandler Bing: More Than Just a Friends Joke

Vanderbilt freshman forward Chandler Bing, whose name famously belongs to a character from the sitcom 'Friends,' has become a notable player for the Commodores. Coach Mark Byington, an avid fan of the show, found the coincidence amusing and frequently incorporated 'Friends' references. Bing, a 6-foot-6, 215-pound freshman, made a significant defensive impact during Vanderbilt's 75-68 SEC tournament quarterfinal win against Tennessee.

Bing, whose parents named him after a family preacher, is distant kin to former NBA Hall of Famer Dave Bing. While initially unaware of the 'Friends' connection, he grew accustomed to the attention. His athleticism and defensive versatility have impressed the coaching staff, with strength coach Brady Welsh noting him as the strongest freshman he'd encountered. Bing's contributions are proving vital as the team advances in the tournament.
