Vols vs. Commodores: CFP on the Line!
25 Nov, 2025
Summary
- This marks the first time both teams are ranked in their long rivalry.
- Vanderbilt seeks its first 10-win season and potential CFP berth.
- Quarterback Diego Pavia aims for a Heisman moment against Tennessee.
The upcoming contest between Vanderbilt and Tennessee is poised to be a landmark event in their storied rivalry, marking the first-ever meeting with both teams ranked. Vanderbilt, currently No. 12, is striving for a rare 10-win season and a potential College Football Playoff invitation, a feat that could be thwarted by the 18th-ranked Vols.
This game carries significant implications for playoff hopes. A Vanderbilt victory could solidify their resume, though 10 wins may not guarantee a spot amidst other strong contenders. Conversely, a loss would effectively end their playoff dreams. Tennessee, often the spoiler, finds itself in a unique position to derail Vanderbilt's historic aspirations.
The individual narrative is equally compelling, with Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia aiming for a signature Heisman moment. A stellar performance against Tennessee could propel his Heisman candidacy, drawing parallels to past pivotal games where quarterbacks cemented their legacy or fell short.
