Paraguayan tennis player Adolfo Daniel Vallejo, currently ranked 71st in the ATP singles, has made controversial remarks following his French Open second-round loss. He suggested that the umpire, Ana Carvalho, was ill-equipped to handle the vociferous home crowd on Court Suzanne-Lenglen, implying men possess more strength for such demanding situations.
Vallejo, 22, lost to 17-year-old French player Moïse Kouame in a grueling five-set match that lasted nearly five hours. Despite leading in the final set, Vallejo could not secure the victory, ultimately falling in a tie-break. He criticized Kouame's alleged stalling tactics, stating the umpire did not adequately control the situation.
Kouame's victory marked his longest senior match and his biggest career crowd, with 10,000 spectators in attendance. He is set to advance to the third round to face Alejandro Tabilo. Vallejo's performance at the French Open follows his earlier appearances in Madrid and Rome.
