The Utah Mammoth have been selected to host the prestigious 2027 Winter Classic, facing off against the Colorado Avalanche. This highly anticipated outdoor game will be staged at Rice-Eccles Stadium, a venue known for hosting the University of Utah's football team and boasting a capacity of approximately 51,000 spectators.
This selection is particularly noteworthy as the Utah Mammoth are the sole remaining active NHL franchise that has yet to participate in an outdoor game. The franchise, which replaced the Arizona Coyotes, will finally fulfill this unique status during the 2026-27 NHL season.
Previously, the Florida Panthers played in an outdoor game on January 2, highlighting the growing trend of these special events. Additionally, the NHL has announced that Dallas will host a Stadium Series game in February 2027 at AT&T Stadium, further expanding the reach of outdoor hockey.
