Whittingham's time at Utah was marked by significant achievements, including leading the team to three conference championships and two Rose Bowl appearances. He also secured two top-five finishes in the AP Top 25 and an undefeated season in 2008, culminating in a Sugar Bowl victory over Alabama. His remarkable coaching was recognized with National Coach of the Year awards in 2008 and 2019.
Utah's athletic director, Mark Harlan, lauded Whittingham as one of the most impactful figures in the university's athletic history, emphasizing his leadership and integrity. Defensive coordinator Morgan Scalley, who was named head coach-in-waiting in July 2024, is anticipated to succeed Whittingham.
