The University of New Mexico has officially appointed Ryan Berryman, 32, as its full-time athletic director. This promotion positions Berryman as one of the youngest individuals to hold such a role in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS).
Berryman, a UNM alumnus and former student manager, previously served as the deputy athletic director/COO. His interim leadership saw the securing of a 10-year naming rights partnership for The Pit arena with Nusenda Credit Union, averaging nearly $1.75 million annually.
The athletic department is currently experiencing a period of significant success. Football coach Jason Eck's team achieved nine wins and earned a bowl bid, their first since 2016. Basketball coach Eric Olen has guided the Lobos to a 22-7 record, with projections indicating an NCAA tournament bid as an No. 11 seed.
