Summary
- Tar Heels' defensive line faces tough Notre Dame offensive line.
- UNC's offensive line struggled against Clemson's pass rush.
- Greg Smith is UNC's best defensive back, crucial against Irish receivers.
The North Carolina Tar Heels are poised to potentially upset the No. 3 Notre Dame Fighting Irish this Saturday. This significant college football game presents a major challenge for the Tar Heels and head coach Bill Belichick.
The battle in the trenches will be crucial. North Carolina's defensive line, featuring sack leader Xavier Lewis, will test Notre Dame's highly-rated offensive line. The potential return of edge rusher Melkart Abou Jaoude could further bolster UNC's defensive front.
Conversely, North Carolina's offensive line faces a significant challenge against Notre Dame's defensive front, especially after struggling against Clemson's pass rush. Protecting quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. will be paramount for UNC's offensive success.
In the secondary, the Tar Heels' defensive backs, led by safety Greg Smith, will need to limit Notre Dame's passing game. Despite lacking recent top-tier wide receiver talent, Notre Dame's quarterback CJ Carr has weapons like Jordan Faison and tight end Cooper Flanagan.
