UNC Basketball Center Ineligible: Replacements Ready?

The UNC men's basketball program experienced a significant roster change this week with the ineligibility ruling of transfer center Cameron Fens for the 2026-27 season, as determined by the Tennessee Court of Appeals. This decision adds to the unpredictable nature of collegiate athletics, following recent eligibility expansions for players.

To address the vacancy at center, head coach Michael Malone has secured three new international talents: Sayon Keita from Mali, who played for FC Barcelona, and Alexandros Samodurov from Greece, formerly of Panathinaikos. Additionally, 7-foot prospect Cade Bennerman, who lacked collegiate experience, joins the team. Malone's coaching background includes developing prominent international players like Nikola Jokic.

Despite the lack of established collegiate experience among the new center trio, there is optimism for their potential to fill the starting role.
