Ukraine uniform map ban sparks Games controversy
4 Mar
Summary
- Ukraine's original uniform map included occupied territories.
- IPC rules prohibit national identity symbols on uniforms.
- Ukraine boycotts opening ceremony over Russian/Belarusian participation.

The Ukrainian team was required to change a planned uniform for the upcoming Winter Paralympic Games. The original design featured a map of Ukraine, encompassing all territories temporarily occupied by Russia. This was deemed a violation of International Paralympic Committee (IPC) rules.
IPC Chief Brand and Communications Officer Craig Spence stated that items related to national identity, including country maps, are forbidden. An alternative uniform was promptly provided and approved by the IPC within 24 hours for the Milano Cortina Games.
The Milano Cortina Winter Paralympics are scheduled to run from March 6 to March 15. Ukraine will be represented by 35 athletes. Notably, Ukraine has announced it will boycott the opening ceremony in protest of the IPC's decision to allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete under their respective flags and national anthems.
