The Pearl of Africa T20I Series is gearing up for its second edition, set to take place from July 17 to July 27, 2023. The tournament, hosted by the Uganda Cricket Association, will feature five teams competing in a double round-robin format.
The participating teams include the host nation Uganda, as well as Kenya, Nigeria, Namibia A, and the United Arab Emirates. Uganda, the defending champions from the previous edition, will be looking to retain their title. In the 2022 final, Uganda emerged victorious over Kenya by six runs, with Frank Akankwasa being named the Player of the Match.
Uganda last played a T20I game in 2022, during the Final of the Africa Continental Cup, where they defeated Nigeria by six wickets. Meanwhile, Kenya's most recent T20I outing was against Zimbabwe at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Sub-Regional Africa Qualifier, where they suffered a 61-run loss.
The UAE, on the other hand, heads into the Pearl of Africa T20I Series on the back of a positive 2-1 series win against Bangladesh. Muhammad Waseem and Muhammad Jawadullah were the standout performers for the UAE in that series.
