First-year UConn football coach Jason Candle expressed gratitude for his initial victory but cautioned against complacency, recognizing the upcoming challenge posed by Maryland. Candle noted that his team has yet to face significant adversity, a crucial element he expects to encounter against stronger opponents.
Despite setting a program record with 671 total yards in their 56-7 win over Lafayette, Candle emphasized the need for the Huskies to focus on practice habits and execution for future games. He believes the team has built confidence and navigated new situations, but the real test will come when they face tougher competition.
Candle sees the 12-game season as an evolving process, stressing that the team is not a finished product. He also lauded his coaching staff's cohesiveness and their ability to honestly assess and correct mistakes, setting a positive example for the players.
UConn's next game is scheduled for Saturday against Maryland at Rentschler Field. A detailed preview of this matchup will be available on FOX61.com this Thursday.
