Tudor Tests Grit at Dakar Rally
23 Jan
Summary
- Tudor's first visible involvement in the Dakar Rally in Saudi Arabia.
- The Dakar Rally's harsh conditions test vehicles, equipment, and endurance.
- Tudor awarded winners with specially engraved Ranger watches.

Tudor, a sister company to Rolex, has entered the demanding Dakar Rally as an official timekeeper, marking its first year of significant involvement in the 2026 event held in Saudi Arabia. Christophe Chevalier, Tudor's head of PR, highlighted the rally's extreme nature, emphasizing how vibrations, shocks, climate, and pervasive sand challenge all equipment.
For this year's rally, Tudor recognized the winners in each of the eight classes with unique, engraved versions of its Ranger model. This simple, three-hand watch was selected for its reliable, no-frills design and robust mechanical movement, making it well-suited for harsh environments.
The Dakar Rally, founded in 1978, has a long history of attracting watch brands, with Cartier being an early participant. The race's challenging nature and romantic desert association have made it an ideal venue to showcase timepiece durability. Brands like TW Steel and Porsche Design have also sponsored or created special editions related to the event.
