In October 2025, former President Donald Trump voiced his disapproval of the NFL's new kickoff rule and the selection of Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny as the halftime performer for Super Bowl LX.
During a phone interview on Newsmax's Greg Kelly Reports, Trump described the league's kickoff rule changes, implemented at the start of the 2025 season, as "ridiculous." He argued that the new format, where the ball is kicked off from the 35-yard line and players must wait for it to hit the ground or be touched by a returner inside the 20-yard line, "just looks so terrible" and "demeans football."
Trump also expressed confusion over the NFL's decision to feature Bad Bunny as the halftime show act, claiming he had "never heard of him" and didn't "know who he is." The former president went on to call the choice "absolutely ridiculous."
