Kelce Faces Lawsuit Ahead of Taylor Swift Wedding
7 Jul
Summary
- Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes are being sued by a shoe company.
- The lawsuit concerns the name of their Kansas City steakhouse, 1587 Prime.
- Kelce and Mahomes argue they should not be sued in New York.

In the days leading up to his wedding to Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce was involved in legal proceedings. He and his associate Patrick Mahomes are being sued by the company 1587 Sneakers. The suit, filed in New York federal court, alleges that the NFL stars infringed on their trademark.
The core of the dispute centers on the name of the Kansas City steakhouse co-owned by Kelce and Mahomes, which opened in September 2025. Named 1587 Prime after their jersey numbers (87 and 15), the restaurant's name is claimed by the shoe company to be a violation of their previously trademarked "1587" designation. The company states its name honors the arrival of Filipino sailors in America in the year 1587.
However, Kelce and Mahomes are challenging the lawsuit's jurisdiction. They contend that they have insufficient ties to New York to be compelled to defend themselves in its federal court. This assertion contrasts with the shoe company's claim that the athletes' participation in national advertising campaigns justifies legal action in New York.
