Kenin and Andreescu Headline Day 2 of Pan Pacific Open
20 Oct
Summary
- Top seeds Sofia Kenin and Bianca Andreescu set to play on Day 2
- Eighth seed Karolina Muchova advances after opponent's mid-match retirement
- Inconsistent form for former champion Kenin heading into the tournament

The second day of the Pan Pacific Open 2025 in Tokyo is set to feature some big names, including Major champions Sofia Kenin and Bianca Andreescu. On the opening day of the tournament, several players advanced to the second round, including eighth seed Karolina Muchova, who moved on after her compatriot Marketa Vondrousova retired mid-match.
Kenin, the runner-up at last year's Pan Pacific Open, has arrived at the tournament in poor form, having won only five main draw matches since the start of June. The American had a solid start to the season but her results have taken a turn for the worse since her third-round exit from the French Open. She has compiled a 3-4 record since the start of the Asian swing and lost in the first round of last week's Ningbo Open.
Despite her own struggles, Kenin is expected to take out the home favorite Uchijima in their first-round match. Uchijima recently cracked the top 50 for the first time but has struggled to maintain that momentum, losing in the first round of her last nine tournaments.
In another first-round match, Daria Shnaider will face off against Dayana Yastremska. Shnaider has been inconsistent this year, while Yastremska snapped a four-match losing streak in her previous tournament. Their head-to-head is tied at 1-1, and the Russian will be hoping to capitalize on her recent form to come out on top in this duel.
