Sooners Surge Ahead in Race to Land Elite 2024 Quarterback
9 Sep
Summary
- Rivals analysts flip predictions to favor Oklahoma over USC
- Oklahoma long considered frontrunner, now regains momentum
- Recruit praises Sooners' "atmosphere and people" as key factors

As of September 9th, 2025, the race to land a highly coveted 2024 quarterback recruit has taken an unexpected turn. Rivals recruiting analysts Steve Wiltfong and Sam Spiegelman, who had previously issued FutureCasts favoring the USC Trojans back in July, have now flipped their predictions to the Oklahoma Sooners.
This development comes just a week before the recruit's commitment date. Joining Wiltfong and Spiegelman in predicting the Sooners as the likely destination is Adam Gorney, also of Rivals. Oklahoma has long been considered the frontrunner for the talented signal-caller, with OUInsider's Parker Thune issuing a prediction in favor of OU back in June 2024, followed by his colleague Brandon Drumm a year later in June 2025.
The recruit himself has expressed his affinity for the Sooners, stating in March that "the atmosphere and the people in Oklahoma are what continue to bring me back." He added that "the players and coaches all seem to be in the same thought process and all have bought into the program."
Despite interest from other top programs like LSU, Texas, and USC, Oklahoma appears to have regained its position as the leading contender to land this highly sought-after quarterback prospect. Head coach Brent Venables, offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle, and recruiting coordinator Jim Nagy will now look to solidify the Sooners' position in the final stretch of the recruitment process.
