Wolves GM: Finch masterful, but team inconsistent

Minnesota Timberwolves president Tim Connelly lauded coach Chris Finch's performance, especially his masterful guidance during a crucial playoff series victory. Despite this, Connelly admitted the team's season ended in disappointment for the third consecutive year, highlighting a recurring pattern of uncompetitiveness in final games. Connelly backed Finch, who holds the best winning percentage and most playoff wins in Timberwolves history. The team met its goal of reaching the conference finals in previous seasons and aimed for the NBA Finals this year. However, they stagnated, mirroring last season's record and seeding despite retaining most key players. Three of their five playoff losses were blowouts.

The Timberwolves' front office is considering all options to close the gap with top Western Conference teams like the Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs. This summer, they may explore significant trades, potentially involving their current frontcourt players, to acquire needed shooting and ballhandling. Connelly indicated a proactive approach, stating a preference for taking risks to achieve success rather than settling for mediocrity.

Key free agents Ayo Dosunmu and Mike Conley are priorities, with Connelly expressing optimism about re-signing Dosunmu, whom he considers the team's most important free agent. Connelly himself is entering the final year of his contract, with owners keen on his long-term commitment. He remains focused on improving the team and achieving championship parades, acknowledging the progress made since Finch's hiring in 2021.
