Captain Tierna Davidson has officially returned to the field for Gotham FC, nearly a year after suffering an ACL tear in March 2025. The 27-year-old defender entered the game in the 61st minute of the club's home opener on Saturday, receiving a roaring ovation from the record 10,796 fans in attendance.
Davidson's return provides a significant boost to the reigning NWSL champions' back line. Her leadership and defensive prowess were instrumental in Gotham's success during the 2024 season. The defender's contract extension through 2027 underscores her importance to the team, even during her recovery.
Previously the first pick in the 2019 NWSL College Draft, Davidson also has extensive national team experience, including being the youngest player on the 2019 World Cup-winning roster and a participant in two Olympic teams. Her gradual return to competitive play is also being managed with the USWNT, with coach Emma Hayes supporting her reintegration.
