Texas Tech Lands Top Pitcher Jayden Heavener

Texas Tech softball has made a significant addition to its roster with the acquisition of pitcher Jayden Heavener from the transfer portal. Heavener, who announced her move on Saturday, June 13, is recognized as the No. 1 pitcher and No. 7 player overall in the transfer portal rankings.

During the 2026 season, the sophomore pitcher posted an impressive 2.81 ERA, striking out 128 batters in 139 1/3 innings. She also recorded 16 complete games in 22 starts for LSU. Heavener's standout performance includes a complete game victory against Oklahoma, where she allowed only two hits with no earned runs.

This acquisition is vital for Texas Tech, especially after the departure of two-time national player of the year NiJaree Canady. Heavener is set to form a formidable pitching duo with returning All-American Kaitlyn Terry. The Red Raiders have consistently leveraged the transfer portal under coach Gerry Glasco, reaching the Women's College World Series finals in both 2025 and 2026.
