Texas QB Arch Manning Injured in Dramatic OT Comeback Win

On October 22nd, 2022, the Texas Longhorns staged a dramatic comeback to defeat the Mississippi State Bulldogs 45-38 in overtime. The victory, however, was overshadowed by an injury to star quarterback Arch Manning.

Manning, a redshirt sophomore, had a strong performance, throwing for 346 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 1 interception. He also rushed for a score to help the Longhorns (6-2, 3-1 SEC) erase a 17-point fourth-quarter deficit.

However, on the first play of overtime, Manning scrambled for a 13-yard gain but then left the field with an apparent upper body injury. Backup quarterback Matthew Caldwell entered the game and threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Emmett Mosley to secure the victory for Texas.

Texas coach Steve Sarkisian did not provide an immediate update on Manning's condition. The Bulldogs (4-4, 0-4 SEC) had put plenty of pressure on Manning throughout the game, recording 5 sacks. A costly roughing the passer penalty on a fourth-down play also contributed to a Longhorns touchdown drive.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding Manning's health, the Longhorns' comeback win showcased their resilience and ability to overcome adversity. The team will now look to build on this victory as they continue their SEC campaign.
