The Texas Longhorns have advanced to the Women's College World Series semifinals after a thrilling 3-1 victory over the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Sunday. This crucial win kept their season alive after facing elimination for much of their time in Oklahoma City.
The game was a tense pitcher's duel between Texas' Teagan Kavan and Nebraska's Jordy Frahm. Frahm gave Nebraska an early lead with a solo home run in the first inning. Despite Frahm retiring the first 13 batters she faced, Texas broke through in the sixth inning.
Freshman Jayice Nichols ignited the Texas offense with a single, followed by a Kayden Henry single. Katie Stewart then delivered a pivotal three-run home run, giving the Longhorns the lead. Kavan pitched a complete game, allowing only one run and four hits.
The Longhorns now face a rematch against the Tennessee Volunteers on Monday, June 1. Texas must win two games against Tennessee to secure a spot in the championship series.
