Texas Penalties Plague Longhorns in Red River Rivalry Loss
13 Oct
Summary
- Texas was flagged eight times for 61 yards in their loss.
- Coach Sarkisian cites penalties as the biggest issue to address.
- Two critical defensive penalties aided Oklahoma's only offensive touchdown.

The Texas Longhorns, previously ranked No. 1, faced significant penalty issues in their recent Red River Rivalry game against the Oklahoma Sooners. Despite a bye week dedicated to improving, the team committed eight penalties for 61 yards, contributing to their loss.
Head coach Steve Sarkisian described the penalties as the primary concern, noting that efforts to improve have not yet yielded sufficient results. He acknowledged that while some penalties were due to players trying too hard, others demonstrated a lack of discipline.
Several penalties proved particularly costly. Two free first downs for Oklahoma were a direct result of Texas penalties, including one that negated an interception. On defense, a roughing the passer call extended an Oklahoma drive, and a pass interference penalty put the Sooners on the 2-yard line, leading to their sole offensive touchdown.
While the Longhorns have seen a reduction in penalties per game this season compared to the previous year, the yardage remains similar. Sarkisian stated that the team is striving for improvement, recognizing that their current performance in this area is not good enough.
