Aggies Upset Gaels in NCAA Thriller
22 Mar
Summary
- Texas A&M secured a dominant win over Saint Mary's.
- The Aggies held an 11-point lead at halftime.
- Houston awaits Texas A&M in the next round.
Day one of the NCAA Tournament saw No. 10 Texas A&M decisively defeat No. 7 Saint Mary's. The Aggies built a significant 11-point advantage by halftime and successfully managed their lead to secure a comprehensive victory, exceeding expectations as 2.5-point underdogs.
Now, Texas A&M advances to face Houston, a highly-regarded team and a top contender for the national championship. The Cougars, coached by Kelvin Sampson, are known for their intensely physical and defensive-minded approach, prioritizing turnovers and ball control to dictate a slower game tempo.
In contrast, the Aggies prefer a faster pace, relying on their speedy guards to overwhelm opponents. This presents a stark contrast in playing styles for their upcoming Saturday matchup, with Houston aiming to neutralize A&M's quickness and Texas A&M seeking to impose their high-octane offense.
