Aggies DC Bateman Heads to Kentucky

Texas A&M's defensive coordinator, Bateman, is departing the Aggies to join the coaching staff of new Kentucky football head coach Will Stein. Bateman will continue his duties with Texas A&M through their participation in the College Football Playoff, starting with their Dec. 20 matchup against Miami.
Lyle Hemphill, currently Texas A&M's associate head coach for defense, is set to become the new defensive coordinator for the Aggies. Hemphill has a history of working with head coach Mike Elko, including their time together at Duke. This transition marks a significant change for the Aggies' defensive leadership.
Bateman's previous coaching roles include working with Florida's inside linebackers and coordinator positions at various other universities. Under his guidance this season, the Aggies' defense ranked 19th nationally in total defense. Defensive end Cashius Howell achieved first-team All-SEC honors with 11.5 sacks and 14 tackles for loss.
