Thousands across Canada participated in the Terry Fox Run, honoring the legacy of a young man's fight against cancer. This year, Barrie's waterfront event at Centennial Beach successfully reached its $125,000 fundraising target, significantly exceeding the $88,000 raised in 2025.
Several communities, including Collingwood, Wasaga Beach, and Alliston, also hosted runs. The New Tecumseth U18AA Icecats hockey team, despite a late Saturday game, participated in the Alliston run, raising $2,762 against their $2,000 goal.
Terry Fox initiated his "Marathon of Hope" in 1980. He ran with an artificial leg after being diagnosed with bone cancer at 18, covering vast distances and raising $24 million before his passing at age 22.
