Player's phone alarm interrupts 1 AM tennis match!

A surprising incident unfolded during a late-night quarterfinal match in Lyon, France, when Lorenzo Musetti’s phone alarm sounded, interrupting play at 1 a.m. This occurred because Musetti had set an alarm for his anti-doping testing slot, expecting to be at his hotel rather than still on court after a match that lasted over three and a half hours. He successfully updated his whereabouts to avoid a potential penalty.

Separately, six-time Grand Slam champion Iga Świątek has ended her season and will miss the WTA Tour Finals due to a left thigh injury. She aggravated a quad injury during a Wuhan Open semifinal match, which led to her withdrawal from the Ningbo Open and subsequently her season. This decision has created an opening for Karolína Muchová to secure the final singles spot in the eight-player field.

The race for qualification for the ATP Tour Finals in Turin is proving to be a thrilling competition, with players ranked between fifth and thirteenth fiercely contending for the remaining spots. Following his loss in the Lyon final, Taylor Fritz currently sits at No. 13, nearly 400 points behind Frances Tiafoe at No. 9. The upcoming Paris Masters will be a critical event for several players looking to secure their places.

Changes to anti-doping whereabouts rules are set to take effect in 2027. Tennis previously had an exemption for in-competition testing from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), but this will no longer apply. Consequently, a group of mostly high-ranked players will be required to specify their whereabouts more frequently, adding another layer of complexity to the anti-doping protocols in the sport.
