At Houston's Bush Intercontinental Airport, a special display welcomes international World Cup visitors, featuring the inspiring story of 16-year-old Brinnley Lisenby. Lisenby, from Tomball, recently returned to playing soccer after a year away to fight and beat blood cancer.
Diagnosed with leukemia in the fall of 2024 at age 14, Lisenby underwent five rounds of chemotherapy at Texas Children's Hospital, requiring a six-month hospital stay. Despite the challenges of being away from home and confined to a hospital room, she maintained a positive mindset.
Seven months after her diagnosis, Lisenby was declared cancer-free and began her determined comeback. She returned to the soccer field within two months of dedicated rehabilitation. Lisenby recently completed her sophomore year on Tomball's soccer team, earning all-district honorable mention.
Her journey of resilience is now part of an exhibit by Texas Children's Hospital, highlighting patient heroes for visitors arriving for the World Cup games.
