Japanese kickboxing legend Takeru Segawa has stepped away from the sport, concluding his illustrious career on April 29 in Tokyo. Fighting in front of a home crowd at Ariake Arena, Segawa delivered a perfect final performance by stopping Rodtang Jitmuangnon in the fifth round to claim the ONE interim flyweight kickboxing world title.
This significant victory not only avenged a prior loss to Jitmuangnon but also crowned Segawa a ONE world champion at the very end of his professional journey. With a career record of 46 wins and 5 losses, including 28 finishes, Segawa retires as arguably the greatest Japanese kickboxer in history.
ONE Championship Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong announced that Segawa will be inducted into the ONE Hall of Fame in October. He will join an elite group of world champions and receive a special 10-gong salute during his retirement ceremony at ONE Samurai 4.
