The ICC T20 World Cup 2026 commences on Saturday, February 7, with a unique opening event. For the first time in ICC World Cup history, the traditional Captain's Day will span two cities and two countries, uniting all 20 participating team captains.
Captains from India, Afghanistan, Canada, England, Italy, Namibia, Nepal, New Zealand, Scotland, South Africa, USA, and the West Indies are scheduled to appear at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai on Thursday, February 5. They will engage with media in two groups, starting at 3pm IST.
Simultaneously, captains from Pakistan, Australia, Sri Lanka, Ireland, Netherlands, Oman, UAE, and Zimbabwe will attend a Captain's Day event in Colombo. This gathering will take place at the Mercantile Cricket Association from 12pm IST onwards on the same day.
The tournament's opening matches are also set for February 7. In Colombo, Pakistan will compete against the Netherlands, while in Mumbai, co-hosts India will face the USA. Both matches are scheduled to kick off the T20 World Cup 2026 campaign.
