Patriots vs. Seahawks: Could Super Bowl 60 go to OT?
8 Feb
Summary
- This season's NFL playoffs have featured unprecedented close games.
- Two divisional round games this postseason went into overtime.
- Only two Super Bowls in history have required overtime to decide.

The current NFL season's playoffs have been marked by an extraordinary number of closely contested games. As the New England Patriots prepare to face the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl 60, the possibility of the championship game also requiring overtime is a significant consideration. This postseason has already witnessed two thrilling divisional-round matchups that extended into overtime: the Denver Broncos defeating the Buffalo Bills 33-30 and the Los Angeles Rams downing the Chicago Bears 20-17. However, neither of those overtime-winning teams ultimately secured a place in the Super Bowl.
Looking at Super Bowl history, only two of the previous 59 championship games have been decided in overtime. Notably, the New England Patriots were participants in and winners of one of those overtime Super Bowls, Super Bowl 51. Should Super Bowl 60 between the Patriots and Seahawks be tied at the end of regulation on Sunday, the NFL's overtime rules will come into play, initiating another coin toss to determine possession and strategy for the potential extra period.
