Patriots May Cut Stefon Diggs After One Season: Report
1 Mar
Summary
- Patriots could release Stefon Diggs after just one season.
- Diggs faces felony strangulation charges and a defamation lawsuit.
- He is unwilling to rework his $26.5 million cap hit contract.

The New England Patriots are reportedly considering a split with wide receiver Stefon Diggs after his first season with the team. Diggs, who signed a three-year, $63.5 million deal last March, carries a significant cap hit of $26.5 million. The team could save up to $16.8 million by releasing him, or $20.8 million with a post-June 1 designation.
Sources indicate Diggs is unwilling to restructure his current contract to lower the cap hit. The Patriots are expected to resolve this situation in the coming weeks and are already discussing potential candidates to replace him as a primary target for quarterback Drake Maye.
The potential departure comes amid Diggs' legal troubles. He recently pleaded not guilty to felony strangulation or suffocation and misdemeanor assault and battery charges stemming from an alleged incident with his personal chef in December. He is also named in an unrelated defamation lawsuit in Florida.
On a personal level, Diggs also recently split from his girlfriend, rapper Cardi B. This turbulence follows a year that also saw Diggs become a father to three children with different women.
