Stan Van Gundy: Jokic MVP, Hart All-Star?

Former NBA coach Stan Van Gundy recently ignited discussion with his assessment of current NBA talent. On "The Zach Lowe" show, Van Gundy suggested Denver Nuggets' Nikola Jokic might be the greatest player in NBA history. This bold claim followed his viral comparison of New York Knicks' Josh Hart to the league's top transition players, Giannis Antetokounmpo and LeBron James.

Van Gundy's assertion that only Antetokounmpo and James are better than Hart coast-to-coast surprised many, especially given Hart's significantly lower transition points per game this season. Hart himself commented on his tenure with Van Gundy in New Orleans, stating that every coach he's played for, except Van Gundy, maintained open communication, labeling himself an "acquired taste."

This past season, Hart has seen increased minutes with the Knicks, particularly following injuries to teammates. Van Gundy's brief stint with the Pelicans in 2020-21 ended with his departure, with reports citing communication issues with players and staff. Hart also moved on from the Pelicans shortly after, being traded to Portland.
