Dinusha's Heroics Keep Sri Lanka Afloat Against India

Rain forced an early end to the third day of the second Test between India and Sri Lanka at the Sinhalese Sports Club. Sonal Dinusha remained unbeaten on 85, providing a significant boost to Sri Lanka's innings as they finished the day at 265/8, trailing India's first-innings total of 503/9 declared by 239 runs.

Dinusha's determined performance not only stalled India's bowling attack but also saw him achieve a unique milestone, becoming only the third batter in Test history to score 80 or more in each of his first three Test innings against India. He has added an unbeaten 35 runs with Lahiru Kumara for the ninth wicket.

India had made progress earlier in the day, taking wickets, but Sri Lanka's lower order displayed notable resistance. Debutant Kamil Mishara, Pasindu Sooriyabandara, Kamindu Mendis, captain Dhananjaya de Silva, and Niroshan Dickwella were among the batters dismissed. Manav Suthar and Prasidh Krishna took three wickets each for India.

India, having declared their first innings at 503/9, will resume play looking to secure the remaining wickets and prevent Sri Lanka from avoiding the follow-on. Key contributions for India came from Devdutt Padikkal's 117 and Dhruv Jurel's unbeaten 115, while Asitha Fernando took four wickets for Sri Lanka.
