Sports Ministry Bans 'India' from Differently-Abled Cricket Council
28 Feb
Summary
- Sports Ministry directed DCCI to stop using 'India' in its name.
- DCCI is not recognized as a National Sports Federation by the Ministry.
- Taekwondo Federation of India and India Taekwondo also face non-recognition.

The Sports Ministry has mandated the Differently Abled Cricket Council of India (DCCI) to remove 'India' from its name and activities. This directive stems from DCCI's unrecognized status as a National Sports Federation (NSF) by the Ministry. Similar notices have been issued to other federations, including the Women's Football Federation of India.
Ravi Kant Chauhan, DCCI secretary, confirmed receipt of the ministry's letter. He urged the government to grant DCCI NSF status, citing their track record in organizing World Cups, Asia Cups, and bilateral series, along with recognition from the BCCI.
A ministry source explained that under the new National Sports Governance Act, all sporting bodies will need approval from the forthcoming National Sports Board for affiliation. This centralized process is expected to be operational within weeks.
In a separate development, the Ministry has withdrawn recognition for the Taekwondo Federation of India. Furthermore, the rival group India Taekwondo will also not be recognized, as neither could satisfy the Ministry's criteria as per Delhi High Court directives, failing to comply with the Sports Code.
