Jon Cooke, a resident near Canterbury, has accomplished an extraordinary 290-mile journey from London's Marble Arch to Paris's Arc de Triomphe. He began the Para Arch to Arc Challenge on Friday and concluded it on Tuesday, navigating delays caused by intense heat.
Cooke's achievement is believed to be unprecedented for an individual with a spinal cord injury, according to the Spinal Injuries Association. His challenge encompassed an 87-mile handbike ride to Dover, a 21-mile rowing passage across the English Channel, and a final 182-mile handbike journey to Paris.
Diagnosed with rare spinal cord tumors in 2016, Cooke underwent surgery and extensive rehabilitation. Although successful, the procedures resulted in permanent nerve damage from the waist down. He embarked on this challenging expedition to express gratitude to the many charities, including WheelPower, Aspire, Spinal Injuries Association, and Dover Rowing Club, that were instrumental in his recovery.
