Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Michael Soroka is set to face the most challenging lineup of his career Friday night. Soroka will start for Team Canada in their World Baseball Classic quarterfinal matchup against a powerhouse Team USA lineup.
Soroka had a promising outing in his previous WBC appearance against Colombia, allowing one earned run over three innings and reaching speeds of 97 MPH on his fastball. This performance helped quell concerns following a difficult Cactus League start.
Having joined the D-backs on a one-year deal, Soroka expressed his desire to be a starter, despite potential competition from returning pitchers. His start against the loaded USA team marks a significant test for the Canadian pitcher.
