Oklahoma's softball program has secured a significant commitment from Sophia Schlader, the top-ranked pitcher and third-overall player in the 2028 class. Schlader, a five-star prospect from Urbandale, Iowa, officially announced her decision to join the Sooners on Wednesday. The highly anticipated announcement came after considering both Oklahoma and rival Texas, with Schlader ultimately selecting the Sooners. She expressed gratitude to Coach Gasso and the OU staff for the opportunity.
Schlader's athletic achievements are extensive. The 5-foot-8 right-handed pitcher and utility player was named the 2025-2026 Iowa Gatorade Player of the Year and is a two-time state champion. During her sophomore year at Waukee Northwest High School, she posted a remarkable 30-1 record with 296 strikeouts in 187 innings pitched. Offensively, she contributed significantly, hitting .357 with 29 RBIs and 15 home runs.
Her commitment adds to Oklahoma's strong 2028 recruiting class, which already includes in-state prospect Braylyn Saenz. The Sooners celebrated Schlader's decision with a video featuring several Sooner legends welcoming her to the team, underscoring the program's continued success and appeal.
