Sixers Draft Sleeper: Philon Lands in Philly

The Philadelphia 76ers have selected Alabama guard Labaron Philon with the 22nd overall pick in the NBA draft. This selection is the first for Mike Gansey, who was recently appointed as the Sixers' president of basketball operations, succeeding Daryl Morey.

Philon, who declared for the draft after his freshman year, returned to college to refine his skills. He notably improved his three-point shooting to 39.9%, averaged five assists, and boosted his scoring to 22 points per game. Several draft analysts, including ESPN's Bobby Marks and Fran Fraschilla, believe Philon could become one of the most impactful players selected late in the first round, with Fraschilla even suggesting he might be the best point guard in this draft class.

The Sixers, who acquired the 22nd pick in a previous trade, continue to build around a young backcourt that includes Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe. The team finished seventh in the Eastern Conference last season and reached the first round of the playoffs.
