Sis Bates, a standout former University of Washington Huskies shortstop, has made history for the new Portland Cascade team in the Athletes Unlimited Softball League. In the franchise's very first game, Bates delivered a significant moment by hitting the inaugural single, followed by scoring the team's first-ever run. This historic achievement came during the third inning of the season opener against the Carolina Blaze.
Although Bates contributed a second infield single, marking the first multi-hit game for the Cascade, her team ultimately lost the inaugural contest 4-1. The Cascade managed only four hits in total during the game. Bates, a distinguished player with multiple Pac-12 honors and All-American selections, had previously played for the Texas Volts in the 2025 season.
Following the 2025 season, the Texas Volts did not renew Bates's contract. She was subsequently selected by the Portland Cascade in the third round of the 2026 Allocation draft as the league expanded. The Blaze and Cascade are scheduled to play their next game on Wednesday, June 10, at 5:00 p.m. PT.
