The Siena men's basketball team is set to play its home opener against Princeton this Sunday at MVP Arena. This marks their first regular-season game in the venue, following an exhibition against Syracuse that provided valuable experience in front of a large crowd. Coach Nevada Smith emphasized the importance of playing in the arena before the official season begins, noting that the team now understands the routine and feels more comfortable.
Assistant coach Lawrence Rowley brings significant insight into the Princeton team, having served as an assistant there for three seasons. He was part of the 2023 NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen team and coached nine current Princeton players. Princeton, which returned all its players from last year, opened its season with a win and played another game on Thursday, offering further scouting opportunities.
Following the men's game, the Siena women's basketball team will also play at MVP Arena, facing Binghamton in the second game of a doubleheader. This will be the women's team's first contest at MVP Arena since November 2022, as they typically play home games on campus.
