Ness Wadia: Iyer is Future India Captain

Punjab Kings co-owner Ness Wadia shared his high regard for Shreyas Iyer, calling him a wonderful person and a future leader for India. Wadia recalled telling Iyer within 15 minutes of their first meeting that he would captain India one day, a prediction he feels has been well-deserved.

He described Iyer's leadership as soft, gentle, and balanced, noting his ability to carry the team along by listening to players and not pressuring them. Wadia contrasted this with Punjab Kings' past performance, highlighting their consistent finishes in the bottom half of the table until 2025.

The franchise aimed for improvement by appointing a strong coach like Ricky Ponting and an Indian captain, which led to a top-of-the-league finish in their first year together.

Wadia attributed the team's dramatic decline in the latter half of the recent season to bowling performance issues, despite batting covering for it earlier.

He also voiced his personal opposition to the Impact Player rule, suggesting it reduces competitiveness and does not add enough excitement to the game.
