Punjab Cricket League Ignites Local Talent

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann inaugurated the Sher-e-Punjab T20 Cricket League, a new tournament aimed at providing a significant platform for emerging cricketers within the state. Organized by the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA), the league's first edition features six franchise teams playing at the PCA Cricket Stadium in Mohali until September 13.

This initiative mirrors the IPL format and seeks to offer talented players opportunities to compete and learn. Chief Minister Mann highlighted the state's strong cricket presence, noting that key Indian team captains Shubman Gill and Harmanpreet Kaur hail from Punjab. He also mentioned the substantial representation of Punjabi players in the IPL, underscoring the league's potential impact.

The league actively involves prominent Punjabi cricketers, with 119 players selected from a pool of over 450 to represent the franchises. Beyond cricket promotion, Mann stressed the government's commitment to sports as a means to combat drug abuse, with plans for 3,100 playgrounds and increased sports funding across Punjab.

Furthering the state's sporting initiatives, the government will host 'Khedan Watan Punjab Dian' from Bathinda on September 5, a unique event celebrating multiple generations of athletes and Punjab's sporting spirit.
