Shaqir O'Neal, son of basketball Hall of Famer Shaquille O'Neal, claimed the College Slam Dunk Championship title on Friday, April 3. The event took place at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, preceding the Men's Final Four.
During the competition, O'Neal showcased his skills with impressive maneuvers, including an elbow-dunk over two fellow competitors and a reverse dunk to finalize his victory. He achieved the highest possible score of 50 points on two separate dunks.
Following his win, O'Neal playfully addressed his father, stating, "Dad, I know you're watching this. You said you have ($10,000) for me if I win this. So, hey, I'm expecting my money." He wore his father's branded shoe line during the competition.
Other contests saw CJ Gunn of DePaul win the men's 3-point contest and Elle Evans from Kansas win the women's 3-point contest. Evans also secured additional wins in a team shooting competition and a 3-point shootout. O'Neal, a forward for Sacramento State, averaged 5.3 points and 3.2 rebounds per game this season under coach Mike Bibby. Four of Shaquille O'Neal's children have played Division I college basketball.
