In a recent interview, former India opener Virender Sehwag has opened up about the profound influence that Sachin Tendulkar had on his life during his playing days. Sehwag, who is now 46 years old, considers Tendulkar as his role model and "God" because he started playing cricket after watching the batting legend.
Sehwag revealed that from 2001 to around 2004-05, he followed Tendulkar like a shadow, learning not just about cricket but also other important aspects of life. Tendulkar, according to Sehwag, taught him how to behave in public, how to eat, and how to exercise. The two-time triple centurion also said that Tendulkar was the first one who took him out to eat Chinese, Japanese, and Thai food, exposing him to different cuisines.
Sehwag and Tendulkar formed India's preferred opening partnership in ODI cricket for a large part of the 2000s and early 2010s. Sehwag has previously spoken about how Tendulkar played a role in changing his mind about retiring from 50-over cricket.
