The Section IV Division II Championships, held on Saturday, February 14th, saw standout performances from local athletes. Gavin Nordberg and Yanni Drapaniotis of Unatego/Franklin/Unadilla Valley, along with Landon Shaffer from Deposit/Hancock, captured individual titles.
Nordberg triumphed at 132 pounds with a 15-4 majority decision, maintaining a 39-1 season record. Drapaniotis remained undefeated at 190 pounds, pinning all opponents, including his final match in under two minutes. Shaffer also went undefeated, securing his title at 138 pounds with technical falls.
In the team standings, Tioga claimed the Division II title with 187 points, significantly outpacing second-place Waverly. Deposit/Hancock finished third overall in the 24-team competition.
Meanwhile, in the Section III Division II Championships at Onondaga Community College, Cooperstown/Milford qualified two wrestlers for the upcoming state tournament. Senior Max Koffer secured second place at 132 pounds, and Andrew Spaulding finished third at 144 pounds, also achieving his 150th varsity win.
