Saudi League: Martinelli assists Watkins to the top
23 Oct
Summary
- Martinelli scored his sixth goal, extending his scoring streak.
- Watkins is now the league's top assist provider with five.
- Watkins has contributed to 10 goals in eight matches this season.
Al-Hilal's Gabriel Martinelli has propelled teammate Ollie Watkins to the top of the assist charts in the Saudi Roshn League. The Brazilian forward opened the scoring in the twenty-first minute against Al-Qadsiah, a goal set up by his English colleague.
This strike was Martinelli's sixth of the current season and extended his scoring run to four consecutive league matches. The assist, however, marked a significant milestone for Watkins, bringing his tally to five for the campaign, more than any other player in the league.
Watkins has proven to be an outstanding acquisition since arriving from Aston Villa in the previous summer transfer window. In just eight appearances, the English striker has been directly involved in ten goals, scoring five himself and providing five assists for his teammates.
