Saudi Arabia Builds Desert Wimbledon

Saudi Arabia's Qiddiya Investment Company is constructing a National Tennis Centre designed to mirror Wimbledon. Located in Qiddiya City, west of Riyadh, this new facility is slated to be the largest of its kind in the region.

The centre will feature 28 hard courts and two clay courts, avoiding grass surfaces. Its Centre Court will accommodate 15,000 spectators and includes a retractable roof, mirroring the design of Wimbledon's iconic arena. The construction is being handled by the same architects who worked on Wimbledon's retractable roof.

This development is part of Saudi Arabia's broader vision to establish Qiddiya City as a major hub for entertainment, sport, and culture. The facility is expected to host a new ATP Masters 1000 tournament beginning in 2028. This initiative aligns with Saudi Arabia's aim to develop its sports ecosystem and enhance infrastructure for elite athletes and talent development.
