Sarfaraz Ahmed: Trust & Talk Key to Coaching Success

Sarfaraz Ahmed, Pakistan's newly appointed Test format head coach, has underscored the importance of mutual trust and clear communication with players for achieving coaching success. His maiden assignment begins with a two-Test series against Bangladesh, scheduled to start on May 8, marking Pakistan's second participation in the current World Test Championship cycle.

Ahmed stated that while technical aspects are secondary, fostering a relationship where players understand his directives and feel comfortable discussing issues is crucial. He acknowledged the challenge of transitioning players from the Pakistan Super League's T20 format to Test cricket, a switch necessitated by the ongoing PSL final stages for many squad members.

Having previously captained and played with several members of the Test squad, Sarfaraz believes this familiarity will be an advantage in his new role. He previously served as a mentor and manager for Pakistan's under-19 and Shaheens squads, gaining some coaching experience domestically and at an academy. He expressed confidence that this exposure will significantly aid his development as a Test coach.

Looking ahead, Sarfaraz highlighted Babar Azam's return to form in the PSL as a positive sign for the upcoming tour, noting the batter's technically sound play. He anticipates a strong contest in Bangladesh, with his team prepared for pitches that may favor both spin and pace bowling.
