The Memphis Grizzlies have continued their retooling process by trading forward Santi Aldama to the Dallas Mavericks. This significant move, reported on Wednesday, fetched the Grizzlies AJ Johnson, a 2030 first-round draft pick originating from the Golden State Warriors, and two future second-round selections.
The acquired first-round pick is protected within the top 20. Additionally, the Mavericks will gain the draft rights to Tarik Biberovic, a player currently competing in EuroLeague and the Turkish Basketball Super League.
Aldama, a 25-year-old Spaniard, spent his entire NBA career with the Grizzlies since being drafted in 2021. In his most recent season, he achieved career highs with 14 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game. He signed a contract extension last summer, which includes a $17 million team option for the 2027-28 season.
Johnson, a 21-year-old, played 23 games for Dallas last season, averaging 3.9 points and 1.1 assists. He was initially drafted 23rd overall in the 2024 draft by the Milwaukee Bucks.
