11 May
Summary
- Keldon Johnson's boombox tradition unites the San Antonio Spurs team.
- The Spurs achieved franchise records, starting the season 5-0.
- Team connection and collective brotherhood are key strengths.
The San Antonio Spurs foster a strong team bond, with Keldon Johnson's music serving as a central element of their locker room atmosphere. This unity extends beyond the court, as the players consider themselves like a large AAU team, spending more time together than with families.
Internally, the Spurs set high expectations, achieving franchise records early in Victor Wembanyama's third season by becoming the first squad to start 5-0. They also recorded an 11-0 record in February, marking their eighth 60-win season with seven double-figure scorers.
Key to their success is a strong connection with no internal drama or jealousy, as emphasized by Wembanyama. He believes that having fun is not just beneficial but entirely necessary for transforming good teams into great ones.
Despite facing challenges and tough losses, the Spurs' collective brotherhood ensures they have each other's backs, facilitating communication and on-court play. This deep bond is evident even during late-night team dinners following intense games.
